Things to Do in Malia
Malia isn’t just beaches and bars – there’s plenty to keep you busy between swims and nights out. From ancient ruins to watersports and mountain drives, here’s what to do when you want to mix a little adventure with your holiday.
Malia Palace
Just east of town lies the Palace of Malia, one of Crete’s most important Minoan sites. It dates back almost 4,000 years and was once the island’s third-largest palace. The ruins are spread over open ground by the sea, making it one of the most atmospheric places to walk through ancient history.
Easy to reach on foot or by car – go early before it gets too hot.
Watersports
If you like your sea with a little adrenaline, Malia Beach has you covered. Jet skis, banana boats, parasailing, and inflatable rides line the shore through summer. Most operators work right from the main beach, so you can sign up on the spot.
No experience needed – just sunscreen and maybe a strong grip.
Adventure & Outdoor Activities
Beyond the beach, you can trade flip-flops for wheels or hiking shoes. Local companies run quad bike and buggy tours through olive groves and up into the hills, giving you amazing views over the north coast.
If you prefer water to dust, try diving or snorkeling in nearby coves, or head inland for short hikes around Krasi or the Lasithi Plateau.
Family & Chill Attractions
Malia is also easy fun for families and relaxed travelers. You’ll find go-karting tracks, mini-golf, and escape rooms right in town. The big waterparks — Acqua Plus and Star Beach Waterpark in Hersonissos — are just a short drive away and great for a full day out.
Perfect mix of splash, slides, and sunshine.
